POLYCARBONATE IN DAILY LIFE

Headlamps

Polycarbonate is used for vehicle headlamps because it has outstanding impact resistance and can easily withstand road debris or stones without breaking or shattering, even at extremely low temperatures.

Glazing

Being transparent like glass, polycarbonate allows light to enter from the outside. Compared to glass, polycarbonate is extremely lightweight. Far less material is therefore needed for supporting parts, which translates into savings in energy-intensive construction raw materials, such as steel or cement.

Medical

Polycarbonate is an ideal material to house dialyzer fibres, the filtering system that cleans blood. The material is transparent, allowing visual confirmation of the proper functioning of the dialysis treatment by medical staff. Especially important is to confirm the absence of clot formation and that the fluids circulate properly through the system without any spillage or leakage.

LED Applications

The outstanding transparency of polycarbonate allows the spreading of light and contributes to LEDs’ characteristic brightness. This brightness is maintained throughout the service life of LEDs: polycarbonate can easily be made UV resistant as it allows LEDs to remain clear and avoid loss of light transmittance.
